We currently have a great opportunity to join our Major Projects Directorate as an Assistant Project Manager (APM) within the Regional Investment Programme in the South West  Our programme includes 5 major improvement schemes across the region’s A roads and Motorways, with more projects on the horizonThese projects will improve our customer’s journeys, deliver environmental enhancements and support the economy of the South-West. 

This role is initially on a 10 month fixed term contract with the possibility of extension.

As an APM you will support and contribute to the whole Programme. You wilbe a strong collaborator and have the ability to work to changing priorities with projects in different phases of development. The roles will offer variety on a day to day to basis as you become a key member of 40 strong team and enhance your experience both personally and professionallyThe team you will be joining is currently delivering over £1bn of projects, part of which you will own, develop and deliver in collaboration with a range of stakeholders. 
What you’ll be leading on 
  • Updating, monitoring and reporting against project plans and milestones 
  • Using your collaboration, communication and commercial skills to get the best out of our Delivery Partners and Technical Advisors, maximising value for money 
  • Supporting the Project Manager to plan and deliver customer and stakeholder engagement and communications 
  • Health & Safety monitoring and reporting 
  • Risk management – identifying project risks and maintaining risk registers, ensuring mitigation actions are completed and risks are appropriately reported or escalated 
  • Collating and presenting data and information to support the Project Manager in monthly project performance reviews 
To be successful  
  • Experience of being involved in delivering customer facing projects in a fast paced environment 
  • Experience of engaging, collaborating and communicating effectively with colleagues and staff at all levels  
  • A good understanding of project management practices and controls 
  • Experience of managing the development of project plans and detailed stage plans in conjunction with delivery partners and other collaborators 
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and time management 
  • Experience in drafting and presenting reports, ensuring they are up to date and accurate

The Regional Investment Programme South West currently covers the following projects, A417 Missing Link, A358 Taunton to Southfields, A30 Chiverton to Carland Cross, A303 Sparkford to Ilchester and M49 Avonmouth Junction.
