We will always tell you by email if you need to go to an Assessment Centre. We’ll let you know in advance what to expect on the day so you can prepare.

Yes, if you fit the criteria for more than one vacancy. However, you will have to apply for each role individually.

Yes, we require references from the past three years of employment or study.

We do provide these and they will be detailed in our job adverts.

You may be required to travel depending on the role, but will this be discussed at interview.

No. We have a fair and open application and recruitment process at Highways England. The process is identical for internal and external candidates, and both are treated in the same way. We have a robust interview process, in which external and internal candidates are assessed by an impartial interview panel. For any given role, the interview format is the same if you are an existing employee or an external candidate. We make our hiring decisions based on the merit demonstrated during the process.

We will ask you to complete an equality and diversity monitoring form during the application process. Any information provided on this form will be treated as strictly confidential and will be used for statistical purposes only. It will not be seen by anybody directly involved in the selection process. No information will be used in any way which allows any individual to be identified.

This depends on the type of role you are applying for. For instance, graduates and some Traffic Officer roles are required to complete psychometric tests (depending on the post).
